Get Involved with the Central Valley Tea Party
As conservatives who would like to see our country return to normalcy, we may need to do some recruiting and change some of our behavior.
Not change so much as just learn how to keep our mouths shut...
Conservatism ought to really not go beyond the following matters:
Free Trade
States Rights vs Federal Rights
Immigration
Constitutionalism vs Judicial Activism
I think that is all...
As conservatives, and especially Republicans who would seek to enlist the masses (which they should, especially our nation's youth who have been seduced by the guise of liberalism) we really ought to keep our mouths shut about our social conservatism. I am a social conservative, though not an extremist, but what is really keeping the masses from flocking to our side is our adamancy towards our views on gay marriage, abortion, and such. We're shooting ourselves in the foot by polarizing people against us. We don't need to be vocal about our objections to these social issues, because when it comes down to it, the matter of states' rights holding precedence over the Fed is unfathomably more important than our stances on same-sex marriage. This goes for Christians, too. (And I believe I can say that, being one myself)
So please, next time some liberal oaf picks a fight and tries to drag down the road of abortion, (excluding federal funding of... though simpletons don't see the difference between even a pro-choicer and those against its fed funding) of death penalty, of same-sex marriage, etc.
Please, let's do this to win it! Give a dog a bone...

Permalink Reply by Jon Wallace on December 28, 2011 at 6:16pm Bravo Ed, as a conservative I too believe too much has been done to create a reactionary audience of voters who look at many of the issues and see them as personal/private issues which need to be decided in the privacy of the family and home; not as public issues which galvanize and alienate voters who would other wise agree with many of the Tea Party fundamental issues which we have all agreed upon. Many voters look at Tea Party members and the movement and tell me they see us as a reactionary cabal. Far from it I see most Tea Party members as folks with common sense and a basic set of morals and principles which America was based upon. Thanks for the post, it took courage to speak about a common internal concern. Best, JW
