I think the Occupy movement has transcended party lines and there are too many people who are still divided, saying the movement is too leftist. Personally, being a reformed leftist turn libertarian, I believe that there is a point where the extreme right and left meet, and the semantics are the only differences. Redistribution of wealth should not be the end-goal, but the fact remains; the 1% are the same people who have always been the 1%. Only now, we have a government instating laws to make it even harder for upward mobility. DO WE REALLY NEED MORE LAWS TO FIX OUR PROBLEMS? Janie, you hit the nail on the head... where would the government be without us, WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT, or at least, we should be. Only now, we have to settle for whichever politician has the policies that closest resemble our own.
I am a strong believer in the system and the Rule of Law, but I think we have gotten ourselves into a quagmire. Between the muddled laws enacted by congress due to take effect here soon and the constant hurricane of laws decided by the rulings of judges, it doesn't seem like we can get out of it...
I want to know what you all would think of the following:
The U.S. Constitution lacks one key fundamental; the ability for the people to whitewash the legislature and all the laws so as to allow for a return to sanity. That would mean all of those in power, regardless of party or history, good or bad, it would allow us to bleed the bad blood built up and take a step back to see what works and what doesn't.
It would probably mean a little earthshaking, but I think we are due for some, people are survivors and we need to be reminded of what it takes to survive.
Please, if you disagree, I want to hear, I take criticism well, but I am serious about a whitewash bill or amendment...
