Notes on doing research.

When doing research, there are certain things to keep in mind:

1. Cite all sources (names, articles, publications, dates, page numbers, etc).

2. Double check any citations that are listed in any articles.

3. Never use Wikipedia. They are not reliable as anyone can write anything.

4. Always be suspecious of any source as many have there own agendas.

5. When people are involved, check for bibliographies from at least 3 different sites.

Visit these research sites

CalChamber 2010
Site has info on major candidates for governor and the issues. Also contains some facts on the state and the economy.

central voters
KMJ's site for information on U.S., State, and local races along with information on the propositions.

Bills
Listing of Bills in Congress. Text of Bills and other info from the library of Congress.

Politics1
This site lists all candidates for State and Federal positions. Each gives access to extensive info on each candidate. Downside- It is a bit cumbersome and not all candidate info is up to date. Otherwise this is an excellent site for information.

commonsense
Somewhat useful site to get information on policies, earmarks, wasteful spending, etc.

issues
Information on current office holders. Want to know where they stand, how they voted? Nice place to dig around in to get rid of all the crap in Washington. This is a great site.

opensecrets
Want to follow the money? Here is where you will find it.

evoter
This is the site to go to for information on who you can vote for. If you already have your sample ballot, no need stopping at this site.

calaccess
Secretary of States website to get the candidates disclosure information.

pollster
Head to head polls on major races. It is only one of many polling sources. You might also want to check with Gallop, Rassmussen, Zogby, etc.

votesmart
Project votesmart has been around for a long time. It will give you basic information on candidates.

What say you to getting inside the other parties?

I was thinking that we need to get some people on the inside of the Democratic party and find out what they are up to. Maybe we can have an influence there too. Let me know what you think of this…Continue

Getting more incumbants to drop out.

Kennedy is the latest in the line to drop his bid for reelection. Shall we all start urging Costa not to run? Can we put pressure on the Democratic party to urge him to abandon all ideas of running…Continue

OK researchers, here's an assignment: Look for all the candidates that we can vote on, find any website they have and read about them. If they fall within our values regardless of party affiliation, list there name here on our site. This is where you can get there names:

This should be a full list.

FYI. Recent Gallop polls for CA:
Republican lean, 31.5%
Democrate lean, 51.2%

Conservative, 33.1%
Moderate, 37.5%
Liberal, 25.4%

Clearly the liberals are swaying the moderates (or is it the media?). We need to get our message/info out to the moderates in order to have balance.

To all research people: It is very important to document all sources when looking at information supplied for political candidates.

We need to research the pros and cons of this initiative.

I have been talking to people outside the Tea party movement and one thing that most people want is to get rid of the professional politician. How say you? Do you agree? Costa is a professional politician. I do not think he has ever had a job outside of government. We should be able to use this to our advantage.
